Renovations & Additions in Reynolds
Enhancing your existing property—whether by adding a sunroom, building a deck, or expanding your living space—requires careful planning to ensure safety and compliance with the RM of Reynolds Zoning By-law No. 7/13.
This section provides a roadmap for common property improvements. While minor cosmetic changes often do not require a permit, most structural alterations and additions are regulated to ensure they meet safety standards and property setback requirements.
When is a Permit Required?
In the RM of Reynolds, a Building/Development Permit is generally required for:
Additions: Any project that increases the footprint or height of your home, such as sunrooms, enclosed decks, or attached garages.
Structural Changes: Foundation repairs, basement developments, and installing wheelchair ramps.
Safety Installations: Wood stoves, fireplaces, and permanent structures containing more than 24 inches of water (pools and hot tubs).
Demolitions: Removing any building with a floor area greater than 108 sq. ft.
Homeowners are responsible for obtaining all necessary permits before work begins. If you are working with a contractor, verify that the required permits have been issued before they start construction on your property.
