February 2026

With the January cold snap behind us, February is looking like more seasonable weather. Whether you are spending time outside to enjoy the fresh snow or staying busy with local events, this month’s newsletter highlights several ways to get involved, from sharing your voice on municipal planning to supporting our local youth.

Please take a moment to review the following updates and upcoming deadlines.

A National Honour for Our History: Musée Dawson Trail Museum

We are bursting with pride to announce that the Musée Dawson Trail Museum has received the 2025 Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Community Programming!

This award is the country’s highest honour in the field of history. The museum was recognized for the Dawson Trail Arts and Heritage Tour, a multi-year project that reclaimed the hidden stories and Indigenous perspectives of the historic Dawson Road.

By collaborating with Métis and Franco-Manitoban communities, the project transformed a simple road into a living history lesson. The initiative included the installation of permanent heritage markers, a stunning mural by local artists, and the creation of an extensive digital archive. Spearheaded by Pierrette Sherwood and supported by a dedicated group of volunteers, this award belongs to our entire collective community.

We encourage everyone to visit DawsonTrailTreasures.ca to explore the heritage of the land and see the work that caught the nation's attention.

Community Voice: Mining Negotiations in the RM

A Message from Reeve Russ Gawluk

Last November, Council met with Minister Jamie Moses (Minister of Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation) to discuss the current mining exploration in the eastern part of our municipality. While the Manitoba Mining Act doesn't currently mandate municipal participation in negotiations, Minister Moses is open to hearing exactly which areas our municipality wants to be involved in.

We are inviting you to help create this list. We want to ensure that as mining moves forward, our way of life and our infrastructure are protected.

Examples of concerns we are looking to address:

  1. Groundwater Protection: Ensuring pre- and post-activity testing of local wells.
  2. Infrastructure Recovery: Stipulating up-front financial costs for mining companies to cover the extra maintenance needed on our roads and waste facilities.

Deadline for Submissions: February 15, 2026. Please submit your topics of concern to the RM Office (hard copy or electronic). Council will compile these into a formal list to present to Minister Moses in our next meeting. For more information please review the Invitation To Participate: Mining in The RM of Reynolds

Municipal Updates

Prioritizing Public and Workplace Safety

In January, members of the RM office staff and our Waste Management team successfully completed CPR and First Aid Training. Maintaining a high standard of safety readiness is essential for our team as they serve the public and manage our municipal facilities.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Stacey from Prairie First Aid Training for providing the instruction. Stacey was amazing to work with and provided our staff with the practical skills and confidence needed to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Recycling & Waste Management

While we have experienced some challenges at our recycling sheds recently, we are very encouraged to see immediate improvements since we began bringing more public awareness to the issue. Thank you to everyone who has adjusted their habits! Keeping these sheds in good condition is a priority for all residents. If you need more information about recycling in Reynolds, please visit our Recycling page.

New Battery Recycling Program

Residents can now leave their used batteries in the provided, marked buckets located at the sheds. This helps protect our environment and ensures batteries are processed correctly. For more information, please visit the updated Recycling page on our website.
